持续性植物状态（PVS）又称植物生存，类似症状如去皮质综合征、眨眼昏迷、昏迷、新皮质死亡、醒状昏迷、长期昏迷、持续性意识丧失、迁延性昏迷等。1993年美国神经病学会建议临床上意识障碍的命名只保留了3个名称，即昏迷、闭锁状态、持续性植物状态，其它命名应予以废除。
