扩大基础是将墩（台）及上部结构传来的荷载由其直接传递至较浅的支承地基的一种基础形式，一般采用明挖基础的方法进行施工，故又称之为明挖扩大基础或浅基础。正常工况下，扩大基础能提高拱坝整体刚度，提升坝体变形的对称性，并改善坝建基面附近岩体的应力状态。不平衡力和塑性余能范数作为评价指标对比表明，扩大基础能明显减少坝体、坝踵和坝趾范围的不平衡力，减小坝体屈服区，工程各部分余能范数均有所降低，扩大基础对拱坝局部坝踵、坝趾区域及拱坝整体稳定性的加固作用明显。
