土地沙化，是指由于土壤侵蚀，表土失去细粒（粉粒、黏粒）而逐渐沙质化，或由于流沙（泥沙）入侵，导致土地生产力下降甚至丧失的现象。土地沙化多分布在干旱、半干旱脆弱生态环境地区，或者临近大沙漠地区及明沙地区。土地沙化的成因有气候等自然因素，也有过度放牧、滥砍滥伐森林、开荒、水资源不合理利用等人类活动的原因。土地是否发生沙化与土壤的水分平衡有关，当土壤水分补给量小于损失量时就有发生沙化的倾向。土地沙化导致可利用土地资源减少、土地生产力衰退、自然灾害加剧等。土地沙化的大面积蔓延可演变成土地荒漠化。
