国际青年日是全世界革命青年反帝国主义、反军国主义、反世界大战的纪念日。 1999年12月17日，联合国大会赞同主管青年事务部长世界会议关于宣布8月12日为国际青年日的建议，决定将每年的8月12日定为“国际青年日”，大会还建议组织宣传活动支持青年日，提高人们对大会1995年通过的《到2000年及其后世界青年行动纲领》的认识。
