“四十而不惑”，出自《论语·为政》这是孔子的自我报告，他说十五岁的时候，立志作学问，经过十五年，根据他丰富的经验，以及人生的磨炼，到了“三十而立”。 汉迄清为止，历代大儒传统解释：立就是做事合于礼，做事能够考虑周到了，但是这时候还有迷惑，还有摇摆的现象，“四十而不惑”，到了四十岁，才不迷惑。 本义：指生活上失意穷困，缺乏信心，无希望，缺乏尊严的一种精神状态
孔子云：三十而立，四十而不惑，五十而知天命。
