向化性，是指植物化学物质分布不均匀引起的生长向性反应。植物根的生长就有向化性。根在土壤中总是朝着肥料多的地方生长。深层施肥就是它的目的的一种，就是为了使作物根向土壤深层生长，以吸收更多的肥料。根的向水性(hydrotropism)也是一种向化性。当土壤干燥而水分分布不均时，根总是趋向潮湿的地方生长，干旱土壤中根系能向土壤深处伸展，其原因是土壤深处的含水量较表土高。
