农业生态系统是指农业生物种群与农业生态环境构成的生态整体。农业生物包括农业植物、农业动物和农业微生物; 农业生态环境包括有机与无机环境。由于农业生态环境是以人类为主体的环境，其环境成分还包括人工建造的客体，如村庄、建筑物等。从宏观上看，农业生态系统是由农田生态系统、草原放牧生态系统、从事捕捞的水域生态系统、森林生态系统、居民点及饲养业生态系统等构成的复杂的多层次、多功能的生态系统，在各业系统之间行使着物质循环和能量交换职能。
农业生态系统（agricultural ecosystem）：在一定的农业地域内，由生物和非生物因素相互作用，并在人类生产活动干预下形成功能整体的一种人工生态系统。
