价格水平是将一定地区、一定时期某一项商品或服务项目的所有价格用同度量因素(以货币表现的交换价值)加权计算出来的，反映一定地区、一定时期所有这种商品或服务项目综合的平均价格指标。在表现形式上虽然可以用货币量进行表示，但非常抽象。比如，某市2002年9月份全市鸡蛋的价格水平为每公斤4.87元，10月的价格水平为每公斤4.53元。用10月份的4.53元减去9月份4.87元，可以得出该市全市鸡蛋价格水平10月份比9月份减少0.34元。
