东平湖古时称蓼儿洼、大野泽、巨野泽、梁山泊、安山湖，到清朝咸丰年间才定名称为东平湖，她是《水浒传》中八百里水泊唯一遗存水域，1985年被山东省人民政府公布为省级风景名胜区，同时也是山东省推出的水浒旅游线路中的重要景区。总面积627平方公里，常年水面124.3平方公里，平均水深2.5米，蓄水总量40亿立方米。
