abstract:The Edinburgh Mela is an annual multi-cultural festival held in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is one of the 12 festivals that make up the Edinburgh Festival. The first mela, a Sanskrit word meaning "gathering" or "to meet", was held in 1995 at Meadowbank Stadium, and was organised by members of the city's minority ethnic communities.
Some 49 groups - including the Federation of Scottish Theatre, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and the EdinburghMela - were told by letter that their regular funding would end next spring.
Existing events such as Hogmanay, Edinburgh festivals, Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, EdinburghMela, Royal National MOD, Turriff Show, East Neuk Festival, Outdoor Orkney Festival and Tweedlove Bike Festival will receive funding for homecoming additions to their planned programmes for next year.
