Harvard College, after all, got to the position it holds today as global leader of higher education over a long time and by raising (and spending) literally tens of billions of dollars to attract the best and brightest scholars and students (who, the school rightly surmises, will eventually turn into wealthy benefactors wanting to reward the institution which gave them an enviable education).
