My mum use to tell me not to believe in fate, destiny and all that. She said it was just to make people feel better, like there was something to look forward to in their lives. She told me that the only thing to look forward to was dieing. She was morbid like that. Then one fateful day, she got what she wanted. Luckily, my mum s best friend (who s also my best friend s mum) decided to adopt me and it worked. That was three years ago, I guess I ve got over it in my own way. Yes it was selfish and childish but it s what she wanted. It made her happy, so to speak. Maybe she didn t think it through properly. Like she said, in her note, you got to put yourself before others especially in times like these. In times like these she meant times when it was hard to get into Uni because there was high demand, when loads of foreigners had decided to set up home in England and take our jobs and times when even the politicians had no idea how to run the country.
