Apple only began building its maps software in 2009 under Mr. Jobs, with an eye toward making its version the defaultmapping app on the iPhone and, later, the iPad.
The problem was that someone at Apple decided to rip Google Maps out of the iPhone and make Apple Maps the defaultmapping application, as part of the crushing tectonic plate-like battle between these online behemoths.
But the most high-profile change is expected to be Apple's announcement that it's replacing Google Maps with its own mapping app as the system's default.
