Just last month Altra launched an electricity-trading site, hoping to grab a share of an electronic market now dominated by the Powermatch exchange operated by BloombergFinancial Markets.
Since the New York company was founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 1982, its data terminals have seized a growing share of the lucrative market for financial information.
In May the company made headlines when it and Reuters announced their agreement to a takeover that would create one of the world's largest financial news providers, one that would just about trump the market share of rival Bloomberg (See "Thomson Wins Reuters").
