abstract:Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo was a ballet company created by members of the Ballets Russes in 1938 after Léonide Massine and René Blum had a falling-out with the co-founder Wassily de Basil (usually referred to as Colonel W. de Basil).
It opened its doors in 1943, with a performance by the New York Philharmonic, and in its early years was host to storied dance companies like the BalletRussedeMonteCarlo and the Robert Joffrey Ballet.
