醋酯纤维是一种半合成纤维材料，与粘胶纤维有所不同。醋酯纤维是由纤维素醋酸酯纺制成的纤维，在醋酯纤维中，纤维素环上的羟基大部或全部被乙酰化。醋酯纤维的纵向为附有条纹的光滑圆柱形，横断面为椭圆形。由于其结晶度和侧序度低，醋酯纤维的断裂强度差，在湿态时更差,但断裂延伸率高，弹性回复性明显较粘胶纤维强。醋酯纤维的吸湿量在标准条件下为6%~7%,在水中的膨胀性较低。其制成品易于洗涤,甚至用热水洗时几乎不会收缩。醋酯纤维耐日晒能力好,超过锦纶、粘胶纤维及棉纤维,受热时先软化变形,后缓缓燃烧,并有助燃性。
