结肠憩室是结肠壁向外凸出形成袋状。可以是单个，但更多是一连串由肠腔向外的囊状突出。结肠憩室可分为真性与获得性两类。真性憩室是结肠壁的先天性全层薄弱，憩室含有肠壁各层。获得性憩室则系黏膜通过肠壁肌层的弱点疝出，因此它是继发于肠腔内压力的增高，迫使黏膜经肠壁肌肉的薄弱区向外突出。
