混凝是指通过某种方法（如投加化学药剂）使水中胶体粒子和微小悬浮物聚集的过程，是水和废水处理工艺中的一种单元操作。混凝包括凝聚与絮凝两种过程。把能起凝聚与絮凝作用的药剂统称为混凝剂。凝聚主要指胶体脱稳并生成微小聚集体的过程，絮凝主要指脱稳的胶体或微小悬浮物聚结成大的絮凝体的过程。影响混凝效果的主要因素：（1）水温：水温对混凝效果有明显的影响。（2）pH：对混凝的影响程度，视混凝剂的品种而异。（3）水中杂质的成分、性质和浓度。（4）水力条件。
