氨丁三醇，分子式为C4H11NO3，白色结晶或粉末。熔点171-172℃，沸点219-220℃ /1.3kPa，溶于乙醇和水，微溶于乙酸乙酯、苯、不溶于乙醚、四氯化碳，对铜、铝有腐蚀作用，有刺激性。氨丁三醇为非钠的氨基缓冲碱。在体液中可与水起反应，而使其减少。适用于代谢性酸血症，也适用于呼吸性酸血症，对代谢性酸血症合并急性呼吸性酸血症的病人是比较理想的药物。
