晚第三纪Neogene Period（距今2330万年～距今164万年），第三纪的晚期。又称新第三纪，也就是大名鼎鼎的新近纪。地层可以反映晚第三纪地层的划分与对比有其独特而复杂的历史。
火成岩活动主要集中在晚第三纪和第四纪。
