思想述评是对先进思想或不良思想倾向的述评。常常针对在贯彻党的方针政策、开展某项工作中出现的思想认识问题及时进行评述，具有强大的舆论功能。思想述评是“务虚”的，但必须以“实”为本，即在“务实”的基础上务虚，从典型事例中引发出思想观点。这一点与通篇以说理为主的思想评论是不同的。此外，写思想述评还要注意启发诱导，不要简单生硬;要辩证地分析问题，避免片面性和绝对化。
