尾水管位于转轮下方，是主要的通流部件，作用是引导进出转轮的水流。尾水管的主要作用之一是回收转轮出口的一部分水流能量，来观察尾水管是如何回收能量的。在折线关闭规律下，先快后慢关闭时，尾水管真空度发生在折点处，先慢后快关闭时，尾水管真空度发生在导叶完全关闭时刻左右。但当有效时间变化到一定范围，使前后两段斜率变化极小时，则类似直线规律关闭。
