1909年生于广东，1929年入杭州国立艺专，1930年入法国巴黎国立美术学校，师从于法国写实画家鲁尚西蒙。
Hu Shanyu was born in Kaiping of Guangdong Province in 1909. He entered in Hangzhou National Art College in 1929, and then enrolled ENSBA in 1930.
