事故统计是指运用统计学原理对安全生产诸方面的数量进行统计、分析和研究，从数量方面反映安全生产状况。统计的范围和对象，是企业职工在生产工作过程中所发生的同生产工作有关的人身伤亡事故，或因设备不安全而引起的人身伤亡事故。伤亡事故统计的目的，是通过调查分析伤亡事故统计资料，全面及时准确地掌握伤亡事故的起数、人数、损失及原因，为领导机关了解安全生产情况，制定安全生产工作方针、政策，研究改善职工劳动条件提供可靠的数据资料。
