吉格梅·辛格·旺楚克 (Jigme Singye Wangchuck) 生于1955年11月11日，12岁时只身远渡重洋赴英国求学。1972年7月24日，老国王逝世，旺楚克继位，成为不丹第四代国王兼任陆军总司令，并享有最高司法权。当时他还不满17岁，成为当时世界上最年轻的国王。
