abstract:Milewski is a surname of Polish origin, most commonly associated with nobility. The origin of the surname is dated 1462 - from name of a few villages named 'Milewo'.
This is usually interpreted as anti-parasite behaviour, but Dr Milewski suggests it might, at least in part, be a trick to absorb iodine from the soil.
