Ms. Condie, who is also Mormon, sets her tale in a disturbingly calm, rational, futuristic world in which choice any choice, almost has been eliminated.
But the book's greatest appeal lies in Ms. Condie's ability to capture in a way that is completely appropriate for adolescent girls the intensity of young love.
