abstract:Janner is a British regional nickname associated with people from Plymouth both as a noun and as an adjective for the local accent and colloquialisms. In 1987 Cyril Tawney, in his book Grey Funnel Lines, described its meaning as "a person from Devon", deriving from Cousin Jan (the Devon form of John), but "more particularly in naval circles anyone from the Plymouth area".
Meanwhile, Labour's Lord Janner of Braunstone said the government should introduce a national approach to deal with anti-Semitic incidents in universities.
On Friday, John Charles Rees QC, defending Mr Richards, asked why he went to Mr Hope's home in Janner House, Richmond Road, in the hours after the murder.
