北周天和三年（公元568年）置州。隋废。武周大足元年（公元701年）复置。治所在汉源（今四川汉源北，明废入本州）。辖大渡河两岸三县十一城，领五十五羁縻州，为剑南西部边防要地。明洪武时改为黎州长官司，又升安抚司，万历时降为千户所。清初改为黎大所，雍正八年(1730年)改置清溪县。 唐武德初置，治所在黎阳（今河南浚县）。领黎阳，内黄，临河，澶水四县，贞观十七年废黎州及澶水县。并入卫州，相州。
