舫是仿照船的造型，在园林的水面上建造起来的一种船型建筑物，供人们游玩设宴、观赏水景，如苏州拙政园的“香洲”、北京颐和园的“清晏舫”等。为水边或水中的船形建筑，前后分作三段，前舱较高，中舱略低，后舱建二层楼房，供登高远眺。前端有平硚与岸相连，模仿登船之跳板。由于舫不能动又称不系舟。舫在水中，使人更接近于水，身临其中，使人有荡漾于水中之感，是园林中供人休息、游赏、饮宴的场所。
