吴大羽，宜兴宜城镇人，我国杰出的油画家，艺术教育家，中国现代画事业的奠基人之一，1903年生。1922年留学法国，就读于法国国立高等美术专科学院，师从鲁热教授进修油画，他一生的绘画艺术素养，高远博大，他早年创作许多巨幅油画如等，解放后所作巨幅油画等以及大量中小作品，都毁于“文革”期间，晚年所作的等油画和部分草图，速写，素描及艺术心得、随笔、诗稿等得到保存。
吴大羽运用色彩、线条、色彩块面等来展现构图，疏简中见严紧组织。
