向义（1892——1970），字知方，别号六碑，贵阳人。1907年，肄业于贵州省立中学堂。1908年，选送考入贵州优级师范选科学堂，入文科。学习期间，成绩优异，才华出众。1915年到1917年，任私立南明中学教员，同时任黔军第一师司令部秘书。1923年到1926年，任贵阳私立学校教员。1927年以后，任省政府秘书，贵阳县征收局局长，贵阳师范学校、女子学校教员。1941年8月，贵州师范学院成立，被聘为中文系讲师兼任该院秘书。1945年，以其科学研究成绩卓著，升任教授。1923《贵山联语》一书刊行问世。一生著书近二十余篇。1970年4月20日，在贵阳病逝，享年78岁。
