abstract:Sage Bionetworks is a research institute in Seattle that promotes biotechnology by practicing and encouraging open science. It is housed in the campus of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and led by Stephen Friend, who co-founded it with Eric Schadt.
Stephen Friend, the president of SageBionetworks and the former head of cancer research at Merck, has suggested pooling patient reported data about drugs in a similar manner.
Through SageBionetworks, the organization he started in 2010, Friend is championing the principles, practices, and incentives that will define what he believes is a new era of drug discovery.
