Boaz, Ruth and Naomi stories tells us that these are not the standards.
So Ruth and Boaz were married, and Boaz took Ruth and Naomi to live with him on his farm. They were all very happy.
But Orpah and Ruth loved Naomi almost as much as if she were their own mother.
Although Ruth felt shy about asking Boaz to look after herself and Naomi, she agreed.
Boaz was pleased that Ruth had come to him for help, and sent her home with a gift of barley for Naomi.
Naomi and Ruth found somewhere to live and settled in. But they did not have enough money to buy food.
Then Boaz said, "On the day you buy the land from Naomi and from Ruth the Moabitess, you acquire the dead man's widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property."
And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor."
Ruth continued to work in Boaz's fields. But Naomi worried about what would happen when the harvest was over and there was no more barley to be gathered.
Back in Bethlehem, God provides a distant relative of Naomi's to marry Ruth and welcome Naomi back into the family.
So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite her daughter-in-law with her, who returned from the country of Moab. And they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.

Orpah and Ruth argued and argued, but Naomi was determined.
He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age, say the local women to Naomi (Ruth 4:15).
And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace.
