孟子曰：“禹、稷、颜回同道。”
Mencius said, 'Yu, Ji, and Yan Hui agreed in the principle of their conduct.
颜回恭恭敬敬地来拜见孔子，请老师去吃饭。
Yan Hui respectfully came to Confucius and asked him to take his meal.
孔子回答，说：“有一位叫颜回的热心向学。”
"Confucius replied:" There was Yan Hui who was eager to learn.
孔子回答：“有个学生名字叫颜回的最好学了。”
Confucius answered, "There was a disciple, Yan Hui, who most loved to learn."
过了一段时间，颜回又对孔子说：“我又有进步了。”
After some time, Yan Hui said to Confucius, "I've made more progress."
颜回要去卫国的决心并没有因为老师这一席话而打消。
What Confucius said couldn't dissuade Yanhui yet. He went on saying, "I will be upright inside and deferential outside."
就这样日复一日，颜回每天专注在修行的功课上不曾一日懈怠。
Day after day, Yan Hui focused on his practice and never loosed it.
孔子说，“我整天给颜回讲学，他从不提出反驳意见，像个蠢人。
The Master said, "Once I talked with Hui all day; he never contradicted me, as if stupid."
颜回回答说：“将老师一般的言论，比喻为走路，这个我没问题。”
Yan Hui replied, "Your common speech is compared to walk, which I can catch up with you."
孔子说，“颜回的学问品德差不多了吧，可他家里经常是一无所有。
The Master said, "Hui, who was close enough, often went penniless."
颜回说：“仁义忠信这些世俗的道德标准，对我而言已经不再重要。”
Yan Hui said, "The worldly moral codes, such as benevolence, righteousness, loyal and credit, become trivial to me."
颜回跟随孔子学习已经许多年了。这些年里，颜回努力用功从来没有懈怠之心。
In the past many years, Yan Hui studied very hard and had never shown laches .
当米饭快要熟的时候，颜回突然伸手从颤里抓起一把米饭，塞进嘴里吞了下去。
The rice was washed and cooked, and when it was almost done, Yan Hui suddenly stretched out his hand to grab a handful of rice from the steamer, put it into his mouth and swallowed it.
如果这样，便跟颜回差不多；颜回也有这种美德，孔子在众弟子中，也最器重他。
If so, he cannot be very different from Yen Huei, who had exactly that virtue and whom Confucius desperately admired among all his disciples.
