In 1908, then-owner Charles Ebbets a former ticketseller for the team started secretly purchasing land for a new stadium to replace the team's wooden structure near Washington Park.
The 26 shutdown orders apply to nine active companies, 13 companies already ordered out of service that were continuing to operate, three companies attempting to apply for operating authority and one ticketseller, the Transportation Department said.
