The purpose of asset protection is not, repeat not, to defeat thecollection rights of legitimate creditors, and certainly not things like child support or where the debtor has acted in contempt.
"This positive move should help to raise standards within the debt collection industry and offer a greater level of protection for the consumer, " Scott Soutar, Credit Services Association said.
