Monday's award of the 2011 prize for physiology or medicine went to Bruce Beutler of the US, Jules Hoffmann from France and Ralph Steinman from Canada for their work on immunology.
Update: After some initial doubts as to whether the prize would still go to Steinman, the Nobel Foundation said later Monday that it would stand by its decision to award the honor to the Canadian scientist.
