Sufficient refinery capacity has as much influence ongasoline prices as fluctuations in the price of oil so if Americans want stable gasoline prices and almost no dependence on oil from outside North America, we need more refineries.
However, diesel cars pollute far more than the traditional gasoline cars andso the government is considering imposing high tax on diesel cars to deter people from buying them.
Higher-blends of ethanol will likely penalize owners of small gasoline-powered equipment which were not made to operate on these blends and are likely to be damaged if they do so without appropriate retrofits.
