The finches of the Galapagos, known as Darwin's finches, are the best known example, asingle ancestral species from South America having given rise to 15 specialized forms in just the last two million years.
Its six villages are cut off from the rest of the country, except for asingle mountain road that runs through a broad belt of virgin forest that forms part of the Swiss National Park.
