An anomaly is a simple drawing by Martin Puryear for "Box and Pole, " his first major sculpture (a 52-inch cube next to a 100-foot needle, both carved in wood), installed at Artpark in 1977.
The sketch, a preparatory drawing for one of the vertical box assemblages that were a frequent theme of Judd's work at the time, could easily be mistaken for a floor plan of the building, a series of stacked volumes one atop the other.
