The two molecules are chemically linked, and the resulting dimer allows for interesting precision in the conversion of light to electricity, and the method of production that the Brookhaven scientists developed actually enables them to play around with different sized molecules fullerenes and quantum dots both.
Opponents of the method, however, are saying that the conversion process uses great amounts of fossil fuels and that it harms marine life through its vast duct system whereby it pipes water into the desalination facilities.
